Employee State Insurance is a self-financing social security scheme and health insurance plan for Indian workers, offering medical and disablement benefits. Governed by the ESI Act, 1948, it is managed by Employees’ State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) under the Ministry of Labour and Employment. ESIC is expected to manage the fund as per the rules and regulations set forth by the Act.
• Applicability of ESI:
The ESIC is applicable on all the establishments having 10 or more workers and is beneficial to all the employees earning Rs.15, 000/- or less per month as wages, an employer must contribute 3.25 percent and the employee must contribute 0.75 percent towards ESI.

The Corporation may levy and recover damages as per the Regulations, at the following rates, not exceeding the amount of contribution payable for default or delay in payment of the contribution.

Usually, MCA approves the forms within 4-5 days once filed and issues Incorporation Certificate with CIN. PAN & TAN are allotted alongside. You may then proceed to open your Company Bank Account.
What is the ESI Code number?
This is the 17-digit unique identification number that is allotted to every registered establishment. This number gets generated through the ESIC portal on the submission of required information by the employer or it is generated on receipt of a survey report from the Social Security Officer.

How can I file an ESI return?
ESI Return contributions have to be filed within 42 days of termination of the contribution period. Payment of contribution shall be made within 21 days of the last day of a calendar month. These returns must be filed half-yearly.
When can we file an ESIC Return?
The ESIC Return is filed on a half-yearly basis which means the ESIC return is required to file on or before 11th May and 11th Nov.
